Ephedra
is illegal to sell in the United States beginning April 12th
By Ron Avidan
The FDA has spoken. Their final ruling has come
out. No sooner than Illinois, New York and California ban ephedra in their
states, causing massive importation of ephedra from other states for desperate
ephedra users, the United States, or the FDA has issued their ruling saying
that legal ephedra sales will be illegal starting around April 12th. That
means that if you see any bottles, whereas in a pill form or liquid form
after that date, you are committing a crime if you purchase it. Of course,
I am not sure if the law says that using the product after April 12th is
ok or not. I can't see how they would enforce that one. So as they did
in California, thousand upon thousand of people are scouring the stores
to get as much ephedra as possible before it all goes away.
Wow! Amazing how so much blatant yelling and
screaming over 155 deaths over 12 years that might be related to ephedra
can cause. Now I am not saying that I sympathize with them, but has anyone
proven yet that ephedra is the direct cause of this. It hasn't with the
Steve Belcher case, it hasn't with many other cases. Still, this herb will
be gone. Oh well…
One wonders why this herb and not alcohol, tobacco,
and even aspirin or other over the counter pills which kill hundreds more
each year. Perhaps it is because of the lobbying power in Congress, or
the massive amount of taxes they generate, or give to the politicians.
Too bad the little supplement industry can't compete against the big pharmaceuticals
in this department.
